P.O.P (Primary Outdoor Program) provides a unique opportunity of outdoor learning for students in grades kindergarten to grade two. It provides experiences that enable children to embrace many physical activities in our diverse West Kootenay terrain. Students are offered the opportunity to hike, cross country ski, downhill ski or snowboard, bike, swim and snowshoe over the course of the year.
Through place-based learning, students explore the local and neighbouring communities to gain a deeper understanding of such topics as environmental issues, local history and wildlife habitat. P.O.P field trips always take into consideration safety precautions for each excursion. Students learn basic skills that support both individual and group safety. This year and in past years, themes explored have included owls, bees, bats, bike safety, tree species identification, salmon, local watersheds, among others.
