Outdoor Education Leadership Program grades 7/8

Welcome to the OELP

One of the specialty programs at WEG is the Outdoor Education Leadership Program. Each year the grade 7/8 cohort participates in this full year enriched educational program that offers the students the opportunity to learn in many environments. As well as their regular academic classes the students will be involved 5 or 6 out trips, which focus on different outdoor activities. The trips will be a combination of day trips and over night adventures.

The program works to foster leadership in an outdoor environment. This is a great program for students who have an interest in outdoor / environmental activities as well as it being a perfect stepping stone to the Valhalla Wilderness Program.
The program will challenge students to discover new personal limits, while providing an opportunity to develop an ecological awareness of our natural environment.

The OELP aims to provide experience that helps students learn about themselves and others. We create a physical and social environment that supports the development of positive character traits such as respect, responsibility, compassion, independence, self-confidence, self-discipline, enthusiasm, leadership, creativity and healthy lifestyle choices.

Potential activities and essential outdoor skills development include:

Hiking and backpacking First Aid
Canoeing Orienteering
